Brook Academy swamps Prentiss

Brookhaven Academy’s basketball teams trashed the PrentissChristian School Saints Tuesday night in a District 4-AA meeting atJohn R. Gray Gymnasium. The Cougars put five players in doublefigures as they roared to a 43-14 halftime lead before whipping theSaints 81-31. The Lady Cougars raced to a 26-3 lead at the end ofthe first quarter en route to a 62-34 win.

Brookhaven 81, Prentiss 31

Sophomore guard Jake Reed scored a game-high 16 points andsenior forward Daniel Lofton registered a double-double, scoring 12points and pulling down 10 rebounds as the Cougars improved to 7-1overall and 1-0 in district play. Blaine Roberts added 14 pointsand Joshua Winborne and Jamison Powell each scored 12 insupport.

Brookhaven only led 16-8 after one quarter but outscored theSaints 52-12 over the next two quarters allowing the hosts to carrya 68-20 lead in to the fourth quarter.

Hagan McPhail and Lee Dungan each scored 8 points to lead thePrentiss.

Brookhaven 62, Prentiss 34

Brookhaven coach Barry Gray saw his Lady Cougars storm out ofthe gate, which allowed him to substitute early and often as theLady Cougars improved to 10-1 on the year and 1-0 in districtplay.

Senior Kelli Snider scored a team-high 14 points and pulled down5 rebounds to lead Brookhaven. Nicole Smith followed with 10 pointsand Anna Katelyn Mangold and Hannah Hickman each added 8 points insupport. Hickman and Kellie Brady each pulled down 7 rebounds.

LeAnn Griffith scored a game-high 16 points to lead PrentissChristian. Candace Banes followed with 11 points for the LadySaints.

Junior High Results

In junior high boys action, Chandler Rodgers, Brennan Miller,and Colby Kent each scored 10 points to lead Brookhaven to a 74-12thrashing of the Saints. Allan Allred, Christian Keene, BrockSmith, and Tyler Coker each followed with 6 points as the Cougarsimproved to 7-1 on the year.

Alex Clark led Prentiss with 4 points.

In junior high girls action, Terah Winborne scored a game-high11 points to lead Brookhaven to a 43-23 win. Anna Lofton added 8points and Laura Beth Wright chipped in 7 points and pulled down 7rebounds in support.
