Loyd Star pitchers/infielders Korey Allen and Tyler B. Case areplotting their baseball futures with the Copiah-Lincoln CommunityCollege Wolfpack. The dynamic duo have signed scholarship papers toplay for Coach Keith Case’s Pack in 2012.

In the meantime, Case and Allen are intent on giving Loyd Starcoach Jonathan Breakfield their best effort as the Hornets battlefor another Class 2A state playoff berth in 2011. Loyd Star hosts ajamboree Saturday on Smith Field, featuring 4-inning games againstColumbia and Bogue Chitto. Action begins at noon.

Case (5-10, 150) and Allen (6-0, 160), both right-handers; havebeen playing baseball together since they were 4-year-oldsparticipating in the Brookhaven Parks & Recreation Department’sT-Ball League. They played for league champion Shipp’sFlowers.

“I have two No. 1 pitchers,” said Breakfield. “They are No. 1-A andNo. 1-B. They will both go to Co-Lin and represent Loyd Starwell.”

On the mound last season, both pitchers posted 2.04 ERA. Allenposted a 7-3 record. Case fashioned a 6-4 worksheet.

At the plate, Allen batted .359, collecting 41 RBIs, swatting 6home runs and 7 doubles. Case batted .360 and had 31 RBIs. He hit 1homer and 4 doubles.

Case, an honor roll student, said he plans to pursue a career inelectrical engineering. He is the son of Ricky and CelesteCase.

“I’ve learned a lot about baseball at Loyd Star,” said Case. “I’mlooking forward to playing for Co-Lin.”

Case can play either second base or shortstop. Breakfield said Casehas a fastball in the mid 80s, plus a curveball and a changeup.”He’s a bulldog on the mound.”

Case’s favorite Major League Baseball team is Atlanta. His favoriteplayer is pitcher Jon Smoltz.

Allen, the son of Kim Rothrock and Kevin Allen, is undecided on hismajor in college. He was a starting quarterback for the Hornetslast season. He usually played shortstop when he wasn’t pitching.His fastball is in the upper 80s. He has a good curveball and achangeup.

Allen said he was looking forward to playing for Co-Lin. “Thecoaches seem like pretty good guys.”

His favorite team is the New York Yankees and his favorite playeris Derek Jeter.

The Hornets finished 23-9 last season, advancing to the secondround of the 2A state playoffs. Case and Allen are among fiveseniors on the squad. The others are catcher Travis Keene,outfielder Marquis Hayes and pitcher/outfielder Aaron Durr.

Coach Case said he was looking forward to having Allen and Case onhis 2012 squad. “Both of those guys have a chance to come in on themound and pitch for us. They’ve had success at Loyd Star and the(Mississippi) State Games.

“Tyler competes hard in everything he does,” Case noted. “Korey hasthe kind of body and arm with a lot of potential. He has a brightfuture on the mound.”

Former Loyd Star players currently on the Co-Lin roster are DrewWeaver, Cody Smith and T.J. Floyd.

High school seniors recently signed by Co-Lin include outfielderDylan Lea of Lawrence County, pitcher/infielder Matt Smith ofWesson and pitcher/infielder J.D. Britt of Brookhaven.
