WESSON — The Co-Lin Lady Wolves came back in the second game ofa fastpitch softball doubleheader Friday to beat LSU-Eunice 8-5after falling to the Lady Bengals 1-0 in the season opener.

The Lady Wolves are 1-1 on the season. LSU-Eunice stands6-6.

Co-Lin is back home Monday to entertain East Central in anotherdoubleheader. The opening game begins at 1 p.m.

LSU-Eunice 1, Co-Lin 0

The first game was a pitchers duel with LSU-Eunice’s Megan Beardposting the win over Emily Horne (0-1). Horne fanned three battersand allowed 2 walks.

The Lady Bengals scored the winning run in the top of theseventh inning. The scored with a single, a sacrifice bunt, apassed ball and a sacrifice fly.

“Emily is not supposed to lose when she has that kind of game,”said Co-Lin softball head coach Allen Kent. “Our lack of runsupport let her down.”

Freshman leftfielder Annie Selman directed the Lady Wolves withtwo singles and a base-on-balls. Hitting safely were Erin Douglass,Jackie Stowe, Kady King, Candace Braxton and Amber Beeson.

Co-Lin 8, LSU-Eunice 5

In the second game, LSU-Eunice jumped on Co-Lin early for a 4-0lead in the first inning.

In the bottom of the second, Co-Lin’s Jackie Stowe and LaurenSmith collected back-to-back singles. Allyson Wallace moved themover with a sacrifice bunt. Kaylin Burke and Kady King followedwith RBI singles to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Third-inning action saw Stowe draw a walk with two outs. Smithdoubled off the left-field wall and Wallace singled to center totie the game at 4-4.

In the top of the sixth, the Lady Bengals went up 5-4 off adouble, an error and a sacrifice.

Co-Lin answered in the bottom of the sixth with four runs for an8-5 lead. Selman gunned down another runner at home plate to endthe Bengals scoring.

Leading the sixth-inning attack was Lacey Williams with hersecond hit of the game. Selman and Bateman had bunt singles. ErinDouglass hit a sacrifice fly to center to tie the score. Stowefollowed with an RBI single to regain the lead. Wallace collectedher third hit of the game, doubling to center to drive in two moreinsurance runs.

Douglass,a freshman from Texas, posted the win with threestrikeouts, no walks and seven hits allowed. Two runs were earned.Beard absorbed the loss.

“Our bats really came to life in the second game,” stated Kent.”We pounded out 16 hits. We were able to get the sacrifice downthis game. We also probably had 6 or 7 bunt singles, using ourspeed and putting it in play.”

Wallace led the hit parade, going 3-for-3 and four RBl.Collecting two hits each were Selman, Bateman, Stowe, Smith andWilliams. Hitting safely were Holly Pyles, King and Burke.
