Lady Bears in South 1A title series

The West Lincoln Lady Bears eliminated the visiting Ethel LadyTigers in three games Saturday in the second round of the MSHAAClass 1A slowpitch softball playoffs. The Bears won the first game12-2, lost 5-4 in the second game and shut out Ethel 9-0 in thefinale.

“I was glad to see us hit the ball overall,” said West Lincoln headcoach Andrew Redd. “We just did not play well in the secondgame.”

The Lady Bears (10-15) resume action Tuesday, hosting their countyrivals, the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats, for the South State 1AChampionship. The game will be a best-of-three series as well. Gametime is 5 p.m.

WL 12, Ethel 2

Jessica Franklin (1K, 2BB) pitched the win for West Lincoln. ReeceAustin (0K, 4BB) absorbed the loss for Ethel.

Karli Herrington led the Bears offense with a triple and twosingles. Marisa Pruski contributed two doubles and a single. KatieMullins provided a triple and a single. Alexis Cook hit twosingles. Haley Ainsworth collected a double. Hitting safely wereMicah Redd and Bentley Sills.

Taylor Hannah led Ethel’s hitters with two singles. The Tigers gota single from Shelby Varnes, Anna Dotson, Lindsey McNeal, MyroniceAustin, Iesha Mennett and Dallas Burkes.

Ethel 5, WL 4

Reece Austin (0K, 1BB) pitched the win for Ethel. Franklin (0K,4BB) absorbed the loss for the Bears.

Dotson led the Tigers offense with three singles. Reece Austinprovided two singles. Hitting safely were Lauren Bouchillon, BrookeSelf, Amber Sartian, Hannah and M. Austin.

Pruski and Redd led the West Lincoln’s hitters with two singlesapiece. Katie Hester and Cook contributed a double apiece. Hittingsafely were Mallori Hall and Mullins.

WL 9, Ethel 0

Franklin (1K, 1BB) collected the win for the Bears. Reece Austin(0K, 2BB) absorbed the loss.

Hester provided the offensive spark for West Lincoln with a doubleand two singles. Karli Herrington continued the flames with twosingles. Sills and Ainsworth hit a double. Hitting safely were Cookand Mullins.

Ethel got only one single and it came from Dotson.
