The Brookhaven Academy Cougar and Lady Cougar basketball teamswon their Holiday Classic Tournament Saturday night in John R. GrayGymnasium.

Powered by Corey Dickerson’s game-high 27 points and 4 rebounds,the Brookhaven Academy boys (10-2) stunned previously undefeatedHillcrest Christian School 49-38 in the boys title game. It wasHillcrest’s first loss in 15 games.

The Lady Cougars (13-3) put away the Marshall Lady Patriots51-40 in the girls championship contest. Brookhaven was powered bysophomore center Drew Holland Tigner’s 15 points and 6rebounds.

In the consolation games, the Marshall boys dumped Huntington(La.) 52-42 and the Bowling Green girls stopped Trinity Episcopal44-32.

Loser’s bracket action saw the Bowling Green boys nip CentralPrivate 61-58 and the Silliman Institute girls clip Central Private53-47.

Brookhaven 49, Hillcrest 38

“Our players did a great job of growing up in the game,” said BAboys coach Dale Watts. “We did a great job of adjusting to what theHillcrest defense gave us. We handled the pressure well.”

Contributing to the Cougars’ win with 8 points, 3 rebounds, 4steals and 4 assists was T-Boy Lynch. Josh Winborne pulled down 5rebounds.

For Hillcrest (14-1), Korlandes Lewis pumped in 17 points.

In the fourth quarter, the game was halted for a few minuteswhen a disruption in the Hillcrest stands took place. SeveralHillcrest fans leaned over the guard rail and berated the gameofficials.

Security escorted about 10 angry Hillcrest fans from thegym.

Brookhaven (10-2) took a 19-11 halftime lead in a patient,defense-dominated game.

Brookhaven 51, Marshall 40

“I was pleased with their effort,” said BA girls coach BarryGray after watching his young team win the title. “They did atremendous job of handling the pressure in a big gamesituation.”

Adding support in the Brookhaven win with 13 points each wereforward Kacey Rutland and playmaker Betsy Lynch. Kelli Snidernetted 8 points. Rutland led off the backboards with 9 reboundsfollowed by Tigner with 6. Lynch made 4 steals and had 5assists.

The 23-4 Marshall girls got 15 points from Traci Rodgers.Netting 9 points was Chelsea Faulkenberry.

The Lady Cougars (14-3) held a 26-23 halftime lead overMarshall.

Marshall 52, Huntington 42

In the boys consolation game, Jimmy Palmer paced Marshall with19 points. Scoring 15 points was Seth Milliorn.

Leading Huntington with 11 points was Ricky Dunbar. AntonioJordan finished with 10 points.

Bowling Green 44, Trinity 32

Girls consolation action saw Jessica Crowe direct Bowling Greenwith 14 points. Gabby Givens had 9 points.

Trinity got 11 points from Eliza Jones.

Bowling Green 61, Central Private 58

Tyler Thomas sparked Bowling Green with 18 points in the boyslosers bracket. Kevin Bond followed with 17 points.

Central Private got a game-high 21 points from Jacob Lofton.Netting 19 points was Matt Creel.

Silliman 53, Central Private 47

In the girls losers bracket, Jamie Byran’s 12 points ledSilliman to the win. Kameron Kline scored 10 points.

Sonni Kirkwood sparked Central Private with 16 points.
