King leads Panthers over Blue Waves

Brookhaven senior southpaw Paxton King fanned 8 of 9 Port Gibsonbatters as the Panthers shutout the Blue Wave 15-0 Tuesday eveningin 3 innings at Moyer Field. He allowed no hits and a walk in theDivision 6-4A encounter.

Brookhaven travels to Port Gibson Friday for a varsity 6-4Adoubleheader with the first pitch set for 5 p.m.

All 9 positions in the Ole Brook batting order contributed tothe win, with run support, RBIs or key base hits. Panther headcoach Randy Spring was pleased with the win.

“We got to play a lot of people today,” commented CoachSpring.

Brookhaven (16-5, 11-2) got singles from King, Nick Helmstetter,Cody Ratcliff, Brice Huckaby (2), Gabe Wilson and PatrickValentine. Chris Dixon doubled.

With 1 out in the third, Valentine’s 2-bagger scored NickPeavey; thus evoking the 15-after-3 rule.

Port Gibson (3-14, 0-13) had only one baserunner in the second;a walk issued to Rudy Wilson. Wilson was quickly picked off duringa 1-3-6 rundown. King tossed to Ratcliff at first, who in turnthrew to shortstop Bud Britt who applied the tag.

Nicholas Hutchinson took the loss for the Blue Wave, coached byDan Smith.
