Water alert lifted

A boil-water notice for Lincoln County Rural Water Associationcustomers has been lifted. Manager Billy Walker said a sample fromthe state Health Department came back clean and the water is safefor human consumption.

Don’t burn

The Monticello Fire Department asks residents not to burndebris, such as limbs and trash, left behind from HurricaneKatrina. Instead, residents should pile those items near the roadfor pickup. Earlier this week, Lincoln County officials declared aburn ban during storm cleanup efforts.

Revivals rescheduled

Norfield Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Bogue Chitto, hasrescheduled its annual revival for Oct. 23-28.

Zion Hill Baptist Church, Wesson, will hold “In the Storm’s ofLife Revival” from Sept. 11-14. Step Martin is the evangelist,Price Harris will present music. Sunday morning worship begins at10 a.m., Sunday evening at 6 p.m.; Monday through Wednesday eveningservices are at 7 p.m.

Pet shelter

A temporary shelter for animals displaced by Hurricane Katrinais open at the Fairgrounds in Jackson. The shelter is currentlyhousing animals owned by evacuees who have been displaced by thehurricane. Volunteers are staffing the shelter to help provide carefor the animals. The animals at the shelter are not available foradoption.
