BA captures AA tennis title

RIDGELAND – The Brookhaven Academy boys and girls tennis teamscaptured the State AA Tournaments Wednesday at the Ridgeland TennisCenter.

“We won girls and boys state championships,” said BrookhavenAcademy tennis coach Velma Estess. “It has been real exciting. Theydid exactly what we expected them to. I am sure gonna miss ourseniors. They will be hard to replace next year.”

Capturing first place were Craig Smith and Jimmy Latham in theNo. 1 boys doubles; Brittany Weeks and Katie Ryan in the No. 2girls doubles and Anna King and Collins Case in the MixedDoubles.

Advancing to the championship finals were Jerrod Rayborn in BoysNo. 1 Singles; Chris Hooper and Ben Rowley in Boys No. 2 Doublesand Anna Moak in Girls No.1 Singles.

The Brookhaven boys won first with 5 points, followed byHeritage with 2 1/2, Oak Hill with 2, Presbyterian Christian with2, Bayou and Simpson with 1 apiece.

The Brookhaven girls won with 4 points. Following Brookhaven wasEast Rankin with 4 points, Canton Academy with 2, Manchester andKirk with 1 each and Heritage with 1/2.
