Services for Irlene Taylor Ratliff of Brookhaven are 3 p.m.,Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel with burialin Heuck’s Retreat Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation is Wednesday from noon-3 p.m., at the funeralhome.

Mrs. Ratliff, 77, died Nov. 24, 2003, at King’s DaughtersMedical Center. She was born in Crystal Springs on Feb. 23, 1926,to John Vernon Taylor and Lily Hamilton Taylor.

She was a licensed practical nurse for 45 years. She receivedher nursing training at University Hospital in Jackson, and workedat King’s Daughters Hospital, Hardy Wilson Hospital in Hazlehurst,and several nursing homes in Brookhaven and Athens, Ala. Sheattended elementary and high school in Crystal Springs, andattended University of Southern Mississippi. She was a member ofHeuck’s Retreat Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, William”Billy” Ratliff; and her brother-in-law, John Gribble Sr.

Survivors are her sister, Myrtle Ruth “Myrt” Taylor Gribble ofByram; her nephew, John E. Gribble II and wife, Barbara, ofHouston, Texas; her niece, Ruth Neal Gribble Gresset and husband,Wayne, of Byram; her great-nephew, John E. Gribble III and wife,Sharon, of Houston; her great-niece, Michelle Gribble Lynn andhusband, Chris, of Houston; her great-nephew, Staff. Sgt. JefferyWayne Harrington and wife, Melissa, of Ft. Monmouth, N.J.; hergreat-great-nephews, Jeffery, Taylor and Ethan Harrington, andAddison and Lucas Lynn; her special friend, Carole Thompson ofBrookhaven; and her beloved pets (babies), Freckles, Whiskers andBoots.

Pallbearers will be John Norton, Horace Golmon, Perry Spencer,Steve Smith, Lafayette McDavid and David Stamps. Honorarypallbearers will be the nurses and staff who lovingly cared for herat King’s Daughters Medical Center and worked with her, and thenurses and personnel at Hardy Wilson Hospital.

Lois Pickering Smith

Services for Lois Pickering Smith of Brookhaven are 2 p.m.,Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Lucien Baptist Church with burial in thechurch cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge ofarrangements.

Visitation is Wednesday from 1-2 p.m., at the church.

Mrs. Smith, 89, died Nov. 24, 2003, at Silver Cross NursingHome. She was born in Franklin County on Dec. 20, 1914, to Judd E.Pickering Sr., and Rhoda Smith Pickering.

She was a homemaker, and a member of Easthaven BaptistChurch.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, BoyceSmith; one grandson; two brothers and one sister.

Survivors are her sons, Paul Dewitt Smith of Brookhaven, andGerald Smith of Baton Rouge, La.; her sisters, Josephine Turnageand Martha Sykes, both of Brookhaven, and Mary Smith of Natchez;her brothers, James Pickering of Lucien, Eugene Pickering of Byram,and J.E. Pickering Jr., of Brookhaven; five grandchildren; 11great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mollie Turner

Services for Mollie Turner of Beauregard are 2 p.m., Saturday,Nov. 29, at St. Peter Rock Missionary Baptist Church in Wesson withburial in the church cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from noon until 7 p.m., with family presentfrom 6-7 p.m., at Tyler Funeral Home.

Mrs. Turner, 62, died Nov. 24, 2003, at her residence. She wasborn in Copiah County on Jan. 23, 1941, to James Butler and EthelMae Brooks Butler.

She was a presser at Kellwood in Wesson. She was a member of St.Peter Rock Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the EasternStar.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Survivors are her husband, David Turner of Beauregard; herdaughter, Patricia Dodds of Brookhaven; her sisters, Gloria J.Butler of Brooklyn, N.Y., Betty M. Motley, Berniece Fisher andGleneva B. Smith, all of Wesson; and her brothers, Wilbert LeeButler, Chance Butler, Charles Edward Butler, Prentiss Butler,Johnny Clyde Butler, Willie Frank Butler and Wilmer Butler, all ofWesson.
