West Lincoln girls win Raleigh tourney

RALEIGH — The West Lincoln Lady Bears captured the RaleighTournament Saturday following a 55-40 win over the Collins LadyTigers in the championship game.

In the boys consolation matchup, West Lincoln knocked offCollins 67-62.

“Offensively, we are getting better and our effort on defensehas been extremely good,” said West Lincoln head basketball coachLane Young. “It’s good to win an early tournament.”

Powering the Lady Bears with 15 points and 7 rebounds was EricaShaw. Alicia Kennedy fired in 12 points and led off the backboardswith 10 rebounds. Finishing with 11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 stealsand 5 assists was Lyndsay Franklin.

For Collins, Shalanda Kemp led with 14 points.

In the boys game, West Lincoln was red-hot fromthe three-point line and finished with 13. Tyler Smith pumped in 29points (including five 3-pointers), 5 rebounds, made 3 steals andhad 5 assists. Brooks Smith netted 21 points (5-three pointers) and7 rebounds.

“The fourth quarter was the difference in the game,” explainedYoung. “We shot the ball well, 5 three-pointers and played smartbasketball.”

Collins’ top scorers were Marcus Keys with 21 points, TremaineKeys with 19 points and George Keys with 10 points.

West Lincoln visits Franklin County Tuesday night for threegames. The junior varsity girls begin play at 5 p.m. followed bythe varsity girls at 6 and the boys at 7:30.
