“Walk for someone you love” is the March of Dimes WalkAmericaslogan for 2005.

Joell McBeth has been meeting with local businesses to formteams and recruit members for the first walk to be held inBrookhaven this fall. McBeth serves as community director for theMississippi Chapter Central Division of the March of Dimes.

The March of Dimes is all about saving babies, said McBeth. Shesaid the walk is to raise funds for research and to promote healthybabies.

According to the March of Dimes Web site, approximately 480,000babies will be born prematurely this year. The group hopes byeducating mothers and families that number will decrease in theyears to come.

The funds raised through WalkAmerica go towards research, grantsand education, said McBeth.

McBeth said she hopes to form lots of teams from localbusinesses as well as family teams. She said a specific date forthe walk is still unknown but anticipates holding the walk in lateSeptember.

McBeth said she and her staff welcome invitations from clubs whowould like to learn more about WalkAmerica or any of the otherMarch of Dimes fund-raisers.
