Services for Brenell Brister, of Ruth, are 2 p.m. Friday, April14, at Powells Grove United Pentecostal Church in Ruth with burialin Providence Cemetery. Community Funeral Services is in charge ofarrangements.

Visitation is today from 7 to 9 p.m., at the church, and onFriday from noon until the time of the service.

Mr. Brister, 75, died April 12, 2006, at St. Dominic Hospital inJackson. He was born on July 20, 1930, to Robert Milton Brister andCarrie Amanda Boyd.

He was retired from his work as a carpenter and from the oilfield. He was a member of Powells Grove United PentecostalChurch.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife, NellieRuth Barnett Brister; his daughter, Charlotte Brister; his twobrothers; and his six sisters.

Survivors are his wife, Johnnie Brister, of Ruth; his son,Joseph Brenell Brister, of Alexandria, La.; his daughters, ReginaRoden, of Jackson, Rachel Long, of Alexandria, Rebecca Firster, ofForsyth, Ga.; his brothers, James Brister, of Slidell, La., and EdBrister, of Thermopolis, Wyo., his sisters, Ruby Dalton, of Topeka,Daphanie Sumrall, of Foxworth, and Idwa Alexander, of Ruth; hisgrandchildren, Trey Thames, Andrea Lewis, Jennifer Slaughter, JohnRoden, Celena Lewis, Chip Price, Quaid Long, Tarah Long, CameronBrister, Meagan Brister, Thomas Firster and Alan Firster; and hisseven great-grandchildren.

Lynell Brown Dow

Services for Lynell Brown Dow, of East Chicago, Ind., are 11a.m. Saturday, April 15, at Mt. Olive M.B. Church in Brookhavenwith burial in the church cemetery. Tyler Funeral Home is in chargeof arrangements.

Ms. Dow, 80, died April 8, 2006, at her residence. She was bornon April 25, 1925, to George Linton Brown and Beulah Harris BrownJohnson.

She was a retired educator. She began her teaching career atRoosevelt High School in Gary, Ind., and later was employed withthe City School of East Chicago, Ind., where she was employed for41 years, retiring in 1992. She was a 1945 graduate of WashingtonHigh School in East Chicago. She was a 1951 graduate of IndianaUniversity, and in 1956, she also earned her Master’s degree fromthere.

She was a member of the Lake County Retired TeachersAssociation. She held memberships in the National Council ofTeachers of English, the American Federation of Teachers and DeltaSigma Theta Sorority. She held lifetime memberships in the IndianaUniversity Alumni Association and the NAACP.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her sister, GraceBrown; and her ex-husband, John Dow Sr.

Survivors are her son, Dr. John Dow Jr., and herdaughter-in-law, Gloria Russell Dow, of Orlando, Fla.; hergrandsons, John Anthony Dow and Jaime Lee Dow, both of Studio City,Calif.; her granddaughter, Kelli Lynell Dow, of Rancho SantaMargarita, Calif.; and her sister, Lucy Mae Wells, of Gary.

Ralph Daniel Green

Graveside services for Ralph Daniel Green, of Brookhaven, wereApril 9, 2006, at Riverwood Memorial Park. Riverwood Family FuneralService was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Green, 91, died April 7, 2006, at his residence. He was bornin Two Egg, Fla., on Sept. 13, 1914, to Charley Cleveland Green andLeeper Francis Prestridge Green. After his father’s death, he movedto Dothan, Ala. In 1947, he moved to Brookhaven and began workingas an electrician. He became a member of the Exchange Club andinitiated the idea of putting out the flags.

He was the former owner and operator of Brookhaven Electric andlater, Brookhaven Automatic. He was a member of the Baptistfaith.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his brother, EdGreen.

Survivors are his wife of 36 years, Brenda Childress Green; hissister, Margie Burns, of Orange, Texas; his brother-in-law, NolonBowman; his niece, Cindy Bowman Townsend; his nephews, Greg Bowmanand Steve Bowman; his great-niece and great-nephew.

James Walley Lowery

Mr. Lowery, 76, died April 10, 2006, at Pine Crest Nursing Homein Hazlehurst. He was born on Oct. 20, 1929, to James HughlonLowery and Bessie Delaughter Lowery.

He was retired from KLLM Trucking. He was a member of WestsideBaptist Church. He served in the Army.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors are his wife, Estelle Brown Lowery, of Hazlehurst; hissons, Chris Lowery, of New Orleans, La., Danny Perritt and BobbyPerritt, both of Hazlehurst; his daughters and sons-in-law, Pamelaand Ronny Dauzat, and Lisa and Ernie Nillen, both of New Orleans,Jimmy Resor, of Slidell, La., and Pat Newman, of Hazlehurst; hisbrother, Gary Lowery, of Laurel; his nephews, Dale Lowery, DannyLowery and Tony Lowery; his niece, Kim Dixon; his 17 grandchildren;and his five great-grandchildren.

Mr. McKee, 46, died April 10, 2006, at his residence. He wasborn in Brookhaven on Sept. 21, 1959, to Bill McKee and MarjorieReid McKee.

He was a vendor with Tom’s Distribution. He was a member ofWellman Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his father and his brother, RickyMcKee.

Survivors are his mother; his son, Robert “Ed” McKee, ofBrookhaven; his daughter, Casey McKee, of Brookhaven; his brother,Ronnie McKee, of Brookhaven; and his sisters, Libby White andMarilyn Killingsworth, both of Brookhaven.

Connie Rae Thornhill

She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Methodistfaith.

Detrix Lionel Tobias

Mr. Tobias, 23, died April 10, 2006, at Southwest MississippiRegional Medical Center. He was born in Pike County on Dec. 19,1982, to Melvin Tobias and Mattie Jean Washington Tobias.

He was a graduate of Bogue Chitto High School. He was a memberof the Chisolm Mission AME Church where he served as a teacher ofthe Primary Sunday School and Y.P.D. He was employed as anelectrician with API Offshore.

Survivors are his parents; his daughter, Deasjahn L. Tobias, ofJackson; his son, Cameron Crawford, of California; his brother,Staff Sgt. Dettorree Tobias, of Fairview Heights, Ill.; hisgrandparents, Troy and Charlieteen Washington, of Bogue Chitto, andElizabeth Tobias, of Summit; his 11 uncles; his seven aunts; and ahost of other relatives, classmates, co-workers and friends.
