Services for Martell Smith Byrd of Brookhaven are 11 a.m.,Wednesday, July 11, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with burial inthe church cemetery.

Visitation is today from 5-9 p.m. at Brookhaven FuneralHome.

Mrs. Byrd, 86, died July 9, 2001, at her residence. She was bornin Lincoln County on Jan. 20, 1915, to J. A. “Geems” Smith andArcola Johnson Smith.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of Pleasant Grove BaptistChurch.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her daughter, JaniceNovak; her sister, Velma Britt; and her brother, Hugh V. Smith.

Survivors are her husband, Clinton Byrd of Brookhaven; herdaughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Robert Beach and Shirley andJerry Nations, all of Brookhaven; her sisters, Maude Smith, LavernLea, Evelyn Smith, Johnnie Jackson, and Para Lee Smith, all ofBrookhaven, and Katherine Nelson of Natchez; her grandchildren,Randy Day, Gregory Day, Amanda Russell, Rhonda Rayborn, TanzaBrown, Laura Massey, Janee Novak and Jamison Novak; and ninegreat-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
