Services for Lt. Col. (Ret.) Anslum M. Blackwell of Monticelloare 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, at Catchings Funeral Home Chapel withburial in Hollywood Cemetery.

Visitation is Sunday, Feb. 3, from 10 a.m. until service time atthe funeral home.

Mr. Blackwell, 85, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at his residence.He was born in Lawrence County on Sept. 2, 1916, to the late Mackand Carrie “Bette” Thames Blackwell.

He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and served during WorldWar II, Korea and Vietnam. He served as deputy base commander atKirtland Air Base in New Mexico and held numerous high-levelmanagement and administrative duites, including inspector-generaland director or chairman of many boards and councils common tomilitary basing activities. He was a rated command pilot. He wasmanager and project officer of drone flight test programs on QB-47sand QF-104s in support of BOMARC Missile and other various testprograms.

He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Monticello Lodge#610, a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry,S.J., U.S.A. and a member of the Wahabi Shriners Temple,A.A.O.N.M.S., Jackson. He was a graduate of Co-Lin Junior Collegeand attended the University of Mississippi, where he received hisB.S. degree, on a football scholarship.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Maude E. BrownBlackwell, who passed away in October 1998; brother, BasalBlackwell; and sisters, Maxie Calhoun and Florece B. Brister.

Survivors are his sister, Margarette B. Russell of Panama City,Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
