WESSON — The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolvesposted a key 74-64 South Division win Monday night over the toughGulf Coast Lady Bulldogs.

The win improved Co-Lin’s division record to 3-0 and overall to10-4. Gulf Coast falls to 2-1 in division play and 11-3 on theseason.

The first half belonged to Co-Lin sophomore guard Dana King whonailed five-three-pointers for 15 points. Sophomore forwardTravalyn Smith recorded 13 of her game-high 21 points in the firsthalf.

The Lady Wolves led the Lady Bulldogs by 17 points, 43-25, atthe half.

Gulf Coast started the first half out of synch and tied the gameonce, 4-4, at the 17:40 mark. Smith scored on a quick layup for 6-4lead. The Lady Wolves went on a 13-0 run to lead 19-4 with 11:10remaining.

“We shot the ball well in the first half,” said Co-Lin women’shead coach Gwyn Young following the win. “We worked it around tothe right people. We tried to get it to Dana.”

Sophomore forward Loretta Martin kicked off the second quarterwith a field goal to give the Lady Wolves a 20-point lead with19:35 left to play.

The Lady Bulldogs hung tough and chipped away at the Co-Lin leadfour points, 58-54 on a three-point shot from sophomore forwardJasmine McClindon with 8:28 left on the clock. Co-Lin sophomoreforward Crystal Brown answered with a putback to push the hostslead to six points, 60-54. The Lady Bulldogs were unable to cut thedeficit any closer the remainder of the game.

Adding support to the Co-Lin win with 11 points and threeassists was sophomore guard Gloria Lewis. Martin followed with 10points, six rebounds, eight assists and three steals.

Pacing Coach Greg Holmes’ Lady Bulldogs with 15 points apiecewere McClindon and freshman guard Brittney Reese. Veronica Palmerfinished with 13 points, including 3 three pointers, and fiverebounds. Tops off the backboards was Shareader Walker with sevenrebounds.

“Gulf Coast has some good players,” added Young. “We got lazy ondefense (in the second half). We made some bad passes. They (LadyBulldogs) were playing at a higher level in the second half.

“We let them have too many second shots. We didn’t play defenseas well in the second half.”
