Lady Cats win opener

MEADVILLE – The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats opened their 2011softball campaign with an 11-5 win over the Franklin County LadyBulldogs Tuesday night.

“I thought we did a great job, considering we had just one day ofpractice with the whole team,” said Bogue Chitto coach ScottLeggett. “We did a great job at the plate and ran the bases well.We need to just keep improving game by game.”

The Lady Cats (1-0) return home for their home field openerThursday against the Columbia Lady Wildcats. Junior varsity beginsat 5 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6.

Bogue Chitto 11, Franklin Co. 5

Toy Smith was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cats with 3strikeouts and 5 walks. Rachel Dier absorbed the loss for the LadyBulldogs with 2 strikeouts and 6 walks.

Bradi Davis and Mattie Avants were the offensive leaders for BogueChitto with 3 singles apiece. Josie Porter belted a double. Hittingsafely were Adrienne Wallace, Rheagan Welch and AlanaNettles.

Courtney Hauer hit a triple to lead Franklin County’s offense.Franklin County got singles from Karlee Mullins, Latorya Griffinand Kierra Collins.

In JV action, the Lady Cats crushed the Lady Bulldogs 8-2 asChristian Black strikeout six batters and walked four.

Mallory Allen paced Bogue Chitto with a triple. Hitting safely wereDaley Roberts, Kaylie Crosby and Lauren Wallace.
