It was a battle of division champions Monday night at MoyerField. Brookhaven and Clinton were looking close out the regularseason on high notes before the state playoffs get under way.

Brookhaven, the Division 6-4A champion, was riding an 11-gamewinning streak. Clinton, the Division 4-5A champ, had won 7 of itslast 8 ballgames.

The Arrows took advantage of four Panther miscues en route to an11-2 win.

Clinton posted a 5-2 win over Brookhaven in the JV game.

Brookhaven (22-8) host the Vancleave Bulldogs, the Division 8-4Arunner-up, Thursday at 6 p.m., in their best-of-3 series. Clintonhost Tupelo at Arrow Field. Game times are set for 6 p.m. Game 2 ofboth series will be played on the road, with a first pitch set for6 p.m.

Clinton 11, Brookhaven 2

It was Senior Night in Brookhaven, as the Panthers honored CoreySmith, Reggie Smith, Josh Townsend and Josh Anderson; along withstatistician Laurie Strehlow. Each received a rose to present totheir parents. Seniors were presented autographed bats signed bythe underclassmen on the team.

Clinton (22-6) used the game as a tune-up to their playoffmatch-up with the Golden Wave of Tupelo.

“We were looking to stay in a rhythm,” said Arrow first-yearhead coach Kelly Greer. “We hit the ball really well tonight.”

The Arrows got 9 of their 10 hits from their first 4 batters.Chase Dorsey and Reed Prewitt each singled. Mike Cashion had asingle, a double and a triple. Clay Keith had 3 singles and adouble.

Clinton grabbed the early 1-0 lead in the first on a RBI singleby Matt Newman that scored Cashion off of his triple.

In the third, Prewitt walked and advanced to second on athrowing error. Cashion walked and Keith grounded into a fielder’schoice as Prewitt scored. Newman reached on an error and Keithscored, making it 3-0.

The Arrows extended their lead to 7-0 in their half of thefourth. Clinton was aided by 3 Brookhaven errors over the past 2innings. Corey Stevens walked. Hunter Beasley reached on an error.Pitcher Korey Cunningham walked to loaded the bases. Dorsey’sdouble scored Stevens and Beasley. Prewitt singled to scoreCunningham and Dorsey.

“We didn’t play well tonight,” said Panther head coach RandySpring. “You can’t make that many errors and except to win.”

Clinton scored in the six, when Keith’s double scoredCashion.

The Panthers scored in their half of the sixth. Scotty Smith andJosh Townsend doubled. Townsend’s hit scored Smith. Corey Smithgrounded to short, but the errant throw to first allowed Townsendto score.

Clinton added 3 insurance runs in the seventh. Beasley, Prewittand Cashion crossed home plate for Greer.

Cunningham (5-1) authored the win for the Arrows. He allowed noruns on 6 hits, issued no bases on balls and struck out 8Brookhaven batters. Prewitt and Steven McDevitt came on inrelief.

Reggie Smith (4-3) suffered the loss for Brookhaven, allowing 1earned run on 2 hits. He walked one and struck out 3 in 2 innings.Brooks Hall (2), Josh Townsend (2) and Scotty Smith finished thegame in relief. Reggie Smith paced the Panther offensive with 3singles.
