Services for Dorothy J. Poole Brooks, of Meridian, are 10 a.m.Wednesday, June 18, at Greater Calvary Missionary Baptist Church inMeridian with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Lawrence County.The Rev. Charles Dailey will officiate.

Visitation is Tuesday from 6 until 7 p.m. at Berry and GardenerFuneral Home in Meridian.

Mrs. Brooks, 61, died June 11, 2008, at Mississippi BaptistMedical Center in Jackson.

She was employed with the Lauderdale County School District. Shewas a product of the Brookhaven Public School system. She graduatedfrom Mississippi Valley State University with a B.S. degree inEnglish Education. She began her teaching career in the LauderdaleCounty School District in August 1970. She taught English atNortheast Lauderdale High School for 31 years. She was diligentlydedicated to her students and her profession. She retired in May2001.

Dorothy remained connected to education and children afterretirement. She served as an outstanding tutor for children inY.E.T. program.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Johnny L. Poole andElla M. Poole; her husband, Wiley Brooks; a brother Johnny H.Poole; and a nephew, Bobby E. Buie.

Survivors include three sisters, Ella Ree Poole (John Scott),Vondell Brown and Glondell Mathis, all of Brookhaven; a brother,Pastor Robert L. Winston Jr. (Sinda), all of Brookhaven; a godson,Jonas Crenshaw Jr.; a dedicated special friend, Fred Johnson Jr.;best friends, Jonas Crenshaw Sr. and Dr. Hargie Crenshaw, all ofMeridian; 12 nieces; 13 nephews; and other relatives and specialfriends.
