Brook dominates division tournament

Brookhaven flexed its tennis muscles Friday in the Division 6-4ATournament at the Brookhaven Country Club. The Panthers won four ofthe five events, claiming another division crown for head coachDavid Misner.

In team scoring, Brookhaven amassed 12 points. Lawrence Countyand McComb tied for second with 7 points. Ridgeland scored 3 pointsand Terry 1.

Brookhaven dominated as Stuart Misner won boys singles, LaneLofton and Judson Langston captured boys doubles, Sadie Corban andElliott Warren won mixed doubles and Lindsey Hall and Betsy Lynchcaptured girls doubles.

“The boys singles, mixed and boys doubles gave up five totalgames in 12 sets,” said Coach Misner. “That’s pretty dominant.”

In boys singles, Stuart Miser defeated Cory Lambert of LawrenceCounty 6-4, 6-0. In the semifinals, Misner shut out McComb 6-0,6-0.

In girls singles, Bavana Ketha of Ridgeland defeated LeahBlossman of McComb 6-4, 6-1.

Claire Cox played singles for Brookhaven and got a bye. She lostto Blossman 6-4, 7-5, in the semifinals.

In mixed doubles, Sadie Corban and Elliott Warren of Brookhavendefeated Lawrence County’s Brooke Nelson and Caleb Debold 6-2, 6-0.In the semifinals, Corban-Warren won over McComb 6-1, 6-0.

In boys doubles, Judson Langston and Lane Lofton defeated AlanKebert and Kramer Austin of McComb 6-0, 6-1. In the semifinals,Brookhaven beat Terry 6-0, 6-1.

In girls doubles finals, Lindsey Hall and Betsy Lynch ofBrookhaven defeated Lawrence County’s Lindsey Thurman and KariMartin 6-2, 6-4. In the semifinals, Hall-Lynch eliminated McComb6-2, 6-1.

The state tournament championships are Monday and Tuesday, April28-29, at the Ridgeland Tennis Center. Finalists in each divisionevent advance to the state tournament where Shannon is thedefending state champion. Brookhaven was runner-up last year.

In the recent Northwest Rankin Tournament Lofton and Langstonwon the boys doubles title. Corban and Elliott advanced to thefinals before losing. Misner lost in the finals of boyssingles.
