Henderson honoree for first ‘O’ Foundation gala

Organizational officers of a new club in Brookhaven are busilypreparing for their first event – an awards banquet and galaplanned for December.

Members of One God, One Love, One People, commonly called the”O” Foundation, first met about two months ago and have since metweekly to organize the 2006 Ole Brook VIP Awards Banquet and Gala,said Rose “Polly” Powell, secretary and event coordinator.

The goal of the organization is to build a better community anda better inheritance for the youth, recognize positive role modelsand to have community and family-oriented events to support thegrowth of both, said Charles Powell, president.

The organization’s first honoree is Brookhaven Police ChiefArlustra “Pap” Henderson.

Henderson will be honored during the Dec. 8 gala at the LincolnCounty Multi-Use Facility. Jackson Mayor Frank Melton has confirmedas the event’s guest speaker, Rose Powell said.

There are two types of tickets for the event, Charles Powellsaid. Court passes are general admission tickets that allow peopleto attend the event, but have no other special benefits. VIPtickets will allow people to enter the hospitality suite and meetthe honorees and guest speaker.

VIP ticket purchasers will also receive better seats and giftbags, Rose Powell said.

Valet parking will be available for all ticket purchasers, shesaid.
