Lady Jackets exterminate Loyd Star

The Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets remained undefeated in Region 7-2A softball action Tuesday night with a 13-3 victory over the Loyd Star Lady Hornets.

     “We hit the ball really well,” said Enterprise coach Ashley Jones. “The girls did a good job making the plays needed to win the game. Loyd Star is a good team and they played hard. Overall, I was pleased with our team’s effort.”

     The Lady Jackets (6-6, 4-0) invade Bassfield for more district action Thursday. Game time begins the junior varsity at 5 p.m., followed by varsity at 6.

     The Lady Hornets (5-8, 1-2) visit the Brookhaven Lady Panthers on Thursday. Junior varsity action start at 5 p.m., followed by varsity at 6.

Enterprise 13, Loyd Star 3

     Spectators witnessed a tough region battle between the Lady Hornets and Lady Jackets. Enterprise managed to overpower the young Lady Hornets with their strong pitching to grab the win.

     Freshman Hannah Moak tossed the win for the Lady Jackets collecting nine strikeouts and allowing one walk. Kelsey McCullough suffered the setback for Loyd Star with two strikeouts and four walks.

     Enterprise outhit Loyd Star 13-4 as Moak led the charge with a double and three singles. Haley Brazell contributed a home run. Taylor Nelson ripped a double and a single. Kayla Britt had two singles. Hitting safely were Ashley Boyd, Kristen Jergins and Kelsey Hux.

     Alli Gartman was the offensive leader for the Lady Hornets with a double and a single. Haley Smith provided a double. Julie Smith singled.

     “Hannah Moak pitched a great game,” said Loyd Star coach Jan Delaughter. “Overall, we just gave up too many hits against a good team.”

     In JV action, The Lady Jackets edged Loyd Star 3-2. Alex Rae Smith pitched the win for Enterprise with four strikeouts and four walks.

     Lauren McCaffrey and Kinsey Dahlin directed the Lady Jackets with a single apiece.

     Kaylea Smith paced the Lady Hornets with a single.
