East Central rally sinks Co-Lin hopes

DECATUR – The East Central Warriors came from behind to beat theCo-Lin Wolves 25-15 Saturday in community college football actionas tailback Patrick Prince scored two fourth-quartertouchdowns.

DECATUR – The East Central Warriors came from behind to beat theCo-Lin Wolves 25-15 Saturday in community college football actionas tailback Patrick Prince scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns.The Warriors won their homecoming game and overcame fiveturnovers.

It was the third straight loss for the Wolves who have beenplagued by injuries this season. The defeat left them at 1-6overall and 0-2 in the South Division. They host Pearl RiverSaturday afternoon for homecoming.

“We had a chance at beating them,” said Co-Lin coach PhilBroome. “We were inside the five-yard line and didn’t score.”

East Central climbed to 5-2 and 1-1, snapping a 2-game losingstreak. The Warriors play the Hinds Eagles Thursday night.

Running back Terrance Wansley scored the first touchdown forEast Central on a 1-yard plunge. The PAT kick was made by JoshThoms and the hosts led 7-0.

In the second quarter, Thoms was working as punter and took asafety after a low snap on fourth down. Co-Lin trailed 7-2.

Tailback Michael Loving ran 1 yard for a Co-Lin TD with 4:59left in the first half. The PAT kick by Matt Powers was blocked andthe Wolves led 8-7.

Still in the second quarter, Co-Lin fullback Lorenzo Townsendcaught a 27-yard TD pass from quarterback Odell Bradley and 2:25left. Powers kicked the extra point and Co-Lin led 15-7.

East Central’s Darius Thames scored on an 11-yard run justbefore halftime and pulled the Warriors within 15-13.

After a scoreless third quarter, Prince took a pitchout fromMitchell McKinnon and went 45 yards for a TD on a 58-yard optionplay. The PAT pass failed and East Central led 19-15.

With 1:02 left in the game, Prince ran 3 yards for a TD. The PATkick failed and the Warriors led 25-15.

Offensively, Co-Lin accounted for 67 yards passing and 91rushing, for a total of 158 yards. East Central amassed 210 yardsrushing and 71 passing, getting 12 first downs.

Tailback Andrew Burks led Co-Lin with 11 rushes for 38 yards.Loving rushed 8 times for 26 yards. Aaron Yarborough had 5 rushesfor 5 yards.

Bradley completed 6 of 11 passes for 67 yards. Townsend caught 3passes for 46 yards.

On defense, Linebacker Kamau Jackson had 16 solotackles, 4 assists and a tackle for a loss. He caused 2 fumbles andrecovered another fumble. Marcus Winn had 6 solo stops and 6assists. Corey Murray intercepted a pass.
