Six Franklin County lifters first in regional

MEADVILLE — Coached by Adam Barron, the Franklin Countypowerlifting team had six members on its squad place first in theRegion meet in Gulfport. FCHS will participate in the South Statemeet at Velma Jackson High School on Friday, March 5.

“Our group has been work and getting stronger,” said Barron. “Theseare some good kids here.”

Franklin County was awarded first place when it was discovered thatWilkinson County had too many participants and wasdisqualified.

Seniors Robert Curry, Bobby O’Quinn, Brad Covington, and BrianCovington, plus juniors James Green and DeMechery Hickingbottomplaced first in their respective weight classes.

Bobby O’Quinn, an All-State defensive tackle the last two seasons,was named Top Lifter at the meet. O’Quinn signed a scholarship withCopiah-Lincoln Community College in football three weeks ago.

FC’s Paul Williams and Jeremy Washington earned second place honorswere at the regional.

“We are going to be working hard for South State between now andnext Friday,” added Barron, a Pike County native.
