BC takes two from Piney Woods

BOGUE CHITTO – The Bogue Chitto Bobcats and Lady Cats were victorious Tuesday night as they tamed the Piney Woods Tornadoes in Region 7-1A basketball action at BC’s new gym.

In the girls’ contest, the Lady Cats overpowered the Lady Tornadoes with their speed and depth to crush Piney Woods 73-11.

In boys’ action, the Bobcats secured a 64-62 victory over the Tornadoes of Piney Woods.

Bogue Chitto returns to action Friday as they visit Vicksburg to take on the St. Aloysius Flashes for three games in another big region test, the junior varsity boys will tip off the action at 5 p.m. The varsity girls are set to begin at 6 p.m., followed by the boys.

Bogue Chitto 73, Piney Woods 11 

The Lady Cats (15-5, 4-2) came out on fire in the first quarter and quickly took care of business as they overpowered Piney Woods to roar to a 32-2 lead after one quarter of action and continued their strong attack in the second quarter to cruise to take a 58-5 advantage into halftime.

In the second half, Coach Christi Terrell’s Lady Cats turn off their strong attack on offensive and defensive to coast to the win.

Sophomore forward Karlie Williams sparked the Lady Cats with 15 points. Shakirianna Jefferson fueled the flames with a 14 points performance. Christian Black paced BC on the boards with 9 rebounds. Perstashia Henderson and Tanesha May provided assistance on the boards with four rebounds each. Zariah Matthew direct the Lady Cats offense with 7 points, 8 assists and 3 steals.

No one on the Lady Tornadoes’ basketball team came close to score in double figures for Piney Woods. Alexis Keeler was the only top scorer with 3 points.

Bogue Chitto 64, Piney Woods 62 

The Bobcats (4-15, 2-4) and Piney Woods battled in the close first half as the Tornadoes carried a 34-30 lead into halftime.

In the second half, BC came out with a strong attack and outscored Piney Woods 39-28 to secured a huge division win.

Senior forward Damien Terrell provided the offensive charge to lead the Bobcats with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Jeremiah Perkins contributed 17 points and had 6 rebounds. Dennis Rogers chipped in with 13 points, 7 assists and 2 steals.

Shannon Lewis pumped in a game-high 34 points to lead the Tornadoes. Dante Hines provided 12 points.
