MLB Kids Camp is Saturday in Bude

BUDE – Kids from ages 6 to 14 will be treated to a rare Major League Baseball Kids Camp this weekend at Leroy “Cowboy” Jones Dixie Youth Ballpark in Bude. Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Bradley Roney, a Southern Miss All-American, will headline the camp.

The camp will run from 10 a.m. until 1:30, with pre-registration from 9-10 a.m. that morning. Cost of the camp is $25. Lunch will be provided.

Roney, who was drafted by the Braves in the eighth round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Braves, is scheduled to begin the season in Double-A with the Mississippi Braves. He’s one of the Braves’ top prospects as a closer, with a 98 mph fastball.

“I’m looking forward to the camp and helping kids learn more about the game,” said Roney. “It’s always good to teach stuff you’ve learned and help them out as well.”

Other MLB players scheduled to attend include LeDarious Clark, a 2015 MLB Draft selection by the Texas Rangers. Clark was named one of Baseball America’s Top prospects in the Rangers farm system recently.

Colin Cargill, a side-arm pitcher in the Miami Marlins organization, will also be on hand. Cargill is a Southern Miss alum.

New York Mets scout and Cape Cod League Manager Cooper Farris will also teach baseball fundamentals, catching and infield drills.

Other MLB players may also attend the camp as special guests.

“Realizing your dream to play pro ball is something every kid has growing up,” said Clark, who ripped 10 home runs in his rookie-level season with the Rangers last year. “Everything you learn as a youth until the day you’re drafted is a great benefit. Baseball is a game you’re always learning something new.”
