Lady Hornets win tournament crown; boys beat Enterprise

The Loyd Star Lady Hornets captured the Lincoln County Junior High tournament crown Monday night with a 21-18 victory over the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats.

Whitney Watts powered the Lady Hornets (8-2) with a game-high 10 points. Malori Cade chipped in five points. Taylor Smith, To-Mara Townsend and Carly Beth Wallace netted two points each.

Jatarayah Ferguson directed the Lady Cats’ offense with six points. Tyuana Brumfield contributed five points. Katelynn Palmer scored four points. Kemilah Clay had two points and Kayden McKnight added one point.

In boys’ action, the Hornets (5-5) defeated the Enterprise Jackets 38-20 in the consolation game.

Stephen Mills paced the Hornets attack with 17 points. Tanner Watts netted 12 points. Thomas Kelly pumped in five points. Reese Dehart and Roberto Galindo scored two points each.

Jay Jones was the top scorer for the Jackets with nine points. Dylan Carter provided five points. Dylan Vaughn and Wyatt Burns had three points apiece.
