The Lincoln County 11-year-old Americans struggled to their offense going Friday night as they fell to the McComb Americans 8-0 in the opening round of the Dixie Youth Baseball District Six Major 11s Tournament at Keystone Park.

Tournament action continued Saturday as the Lincoln Americans battles McComb Nationals at 7 p.m. The McComb Americans entertain the McComb Nationals at 7, Monday night at Keystone Park.

Only one team will be allowed to advance to the state tournament, which is held at Magee starting July 11.

The Lincoln Americans and the McComb Americans came out strong defensively as both teams provided an exciting pitchers duel for their baseball fans in the first three innings of action.

The McComb Americans managed to break up the scoreless contest in the top of the fourth inning as they pushed across one run on a sacrifice error.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Mother Nature snuck into the picture once again in Lincoln County making the conditions wet for the young ball players.

The Lincoln Americans tried to use the rain to their advantage to rally back but the McComb Americans pitcher Conner Wilson held strong on the mound and shut down Lincoln County’s attempt with his off-speed pitches.

In the top of the fifth inning, the McComb Americans offense came alive as they exploded with a six-run jolt to increase their lead to 7-0. The Americans of Pike County would win another run in the top of the sixth inning and rely on their strong defense to close the door for the shut-out victory.

Wilson dominated the mound for the McComb Americans with seven strikeouts and seven walks.

Dylan Carter suffered the setback for the Lincoln County Americans in the opener collecting six strikeouts and giving up only two walks.

The Lincoln Americans recorded only one hit in the game as Jon Albritton ripped a single.

Wyatt Lampton was the top slugger for McComb with three singles. Brady Whitaker and Kayden Easley provided a pair of singles. Keegan Roberts had a double. Hitting safely were J.T. McCaffrey, Ray Ray Hughes, Jessie Smith, Justin Weekley and Wilson.
