Bears shut out Bobcats

West Lincoln defeated Bogue Chitto 10-0 Saturday in the Lincoln County Invitational baseball tournament at Loyd Star. Pitcher Seth Bivens threw a no-hitter.

“We did a good job today of taking care of business,” said West Lincoln coach David Gilbert. “Bivens threw the ball really well today. He worked ahead in the count and worked both sides of the plate. Throwing a no-hitter is something special and that is his second one in this young season. I was very proud of him today. Offensively we hit the ball well and we were able to steal some bases to put pressure on the defense. It was a great team win.”

After a scoreless defensive battle in the first inning, West Lincoln went up 1-0 in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Nathanael Addison. The Bears piled on three more runs in the bottom of the third after Lofton Sills hit a double to score Kylar Fielder. Brady Thompson also singled to score pinch runner Jayden Rushing.

West Lincoln commanded a 9-0 lead through four innings after receiving an RBI single from Fielder, an RBI single from Bivens, a single from Sills and an RBI single from Daniel Spears.

The Bears plated their 10th run in the fifth inning to come away with a 10-run rule win.

West Lincoln collected nine hits in the contest. Lofton Sills led the Bears with two hits, a double and single, and one RBI. Kylar Fielder had two singles and one RBI.

Austin Burris, Daniel Spears, Brady Thompson, Nathanael Addison, and Bivens each hit safely. Thompson and Bivens collected two RBIs. Spears and Thompson each had an RBI.

Bivens collected the win on the mound for the Bears with no earned runs. He walked three and struck out 10 during his five innings of work.

Tucker Lambert took the loss pitching three innings. He allowed seven runs in three innings. He walked two and struck out three.
