Nursing home resident is charged in man’s death

MAGEE – A nursing home resident in Magee has been arrested for second degree murder involving the death of his roommate, Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood announced in a press release Thursday.

Jerrell Eubanks, 63, a resident of the Hillcrest Nursing Home, was arrested Wednesday by investigators with the attorney general’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, with assistance from the Magee Police Department.

Eubanks is accused of pushing a cellophane bag containing a sandwich down the throat of the 83-year-old victim, causing his death.

It is the general policy of the attorney general’s Office to not release the exact identity of a victim; however, Magee Police Chief Randy Crawford said the victim was 83-year-old William Park, according to an Associated Press report.

Eubanks was arrested by the Magee police and investigators with the attorney general’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. Eubanks is being held on $100,000 bond, according to the Associated Press. It wasn’t immediately clear if he has an attorney.

The Medicaid fraud control unit is prosecuting the case. If convicted, Eubanks could face a life sentence.

As with all cases, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
