Law officers make multiple arrests on drug charges

Several area people have been served with indictments on drug charges over the past several days.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s office, Monticello Police Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics arrested 11 people on grand jury indictments due to narcotic violations.

Lawrence County Sheriff Joel Thames said the three agencies have worked together undercover over the past year to make a dent in the possession and sale of controlled substances in the county.

Lincoln County also saw several arrests over the weekend. Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing said the sheriff’s department served indictments handed down from the grand jury. Rushing said they worked with the Southwest Mississippi Narcotics Unit to build several cases. He said several more drug-related arrests will be made as the indictments are served.

Brookhaven Police Department Chief Bobby Bell said drug-related arrests in the city appeared to be due to routine traffic stops.

Lawrence County

The following were arrested in Lawrence County:

• Fredrick Harris, 37, of 75 Jerrytown Road, Oma community – charged with sale of controlled substance.

• Cindy Smith, 50, of 745 F.E. Sellers Highway, Monticello – charged with conspiracy to possess controlled substance and sale.

• Dexter Maye, 58, of 845 Lee Avenue, Monticello – charged with possession of controlled substance and conspiracy to sale controlled substance.

• Bailey Paige Smith, 22, of 14 Old Highway 27, Monticello – sale of controlled substance.

• Reiney Alex Andrews, 22, of 314 Old Highway 27, Monticello – charged with conspiracy to possess controlled substance with intent to deliver, two counts of sale of controlled substance, possession of contraband in correctional facility and six counts child endangerment

• Stephen Cox, 42, of 405 Carmel-New Hope Road, Monticello – charged with two counts of sale of controlled substance.

• Jerry Dean Davis, 52, of 272 Ford Calcote Road, Monticello – charged with sale of controlled substance.

• Bradley Bowen, 37, of 177 Steen Smith Road, Monticello – charged with possession of controlled substance.

• Christopher Adam Hunt, 50, 301 Indiana Ave., New Hebron – charged with possession of controlled substance.

• Roman Tanksley, 26, of 466 Holmes Road, Jayess – charged with possession of controlled substance.

• Roxanne McHenry, 42, of 346 Carmel-New Hope Road, Monticello – charged with possession of controlled substance.

Lincoln County

The following drug-related arrests were made in Lincoln County by the sheriff’s department over the weekend:

• Tyson Byrd, 6-29-1977, of 3029 Bluebird Trail – charged with two counts of cocaine sale or possession with intent to sale. In jail.

• Cleveland R. Chatman, 1-22-1960, of 204 Eastly – charged with cocaine sale or possession with intent. In jail.

• Corey D. Sheppard, 7-28-1992, 103 Benjamin Street – charged with two counts of possession of cocaine with 1500 feet of a church. In jail.

• Lavoris D. Smith, 7-30-1982, of 1331 Brignal Road – indicted with unlawful sale of less than 2 grams and charged with probation violation due to unpaid fines and reporting fees. In jail.

• John Cole, 9-8-1972, of 210 Lottie Street – charged with cocaine sale or possession with intent, possession of controlled substance and possession of cocaine within 1500 feet of a school or church. Released on bond.

• Butch Delaughter, 4-23-1983, of 1241 Lucky Lane – charged with two counts possession of controlled substance. In jail.

Brookhaven

The following drug-related arrests were made the Brookhaven Police Department over the weekend:

• Dianne Byrd, 1-22-1963, of 1879 Nola Road – charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of sale of controlled substance. In jail.

• William Holloway, 2-9-1980, of 3019 Bluebird Trail – charged with cocaine sale or possession with intent, sale of less than two grams of cocaine, cocaine sale or possession with intent, possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent of controlled substance. In jail.

• Zacchaeus Montgomery, 11-23-1993, of 411 E. Enterprise Street – charged with driving while license suspended, careless driving, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, hold for Mississippi Department of Corrections and failure to yield/stop for blue lights. In jail.
