Minister heeds call to return to the pulpit

Daniel Turner has returned to the pulpit for the first time in seven years. He has founded a new ministry called New Birth Community Fellowship in Summit that will begin services Sunday, Sept. 7.

“So many people were asking where he had gone and where he was preaching,” said Barbara Turner, Daniel’s wife. She said that they knew it was time for him to get back into the ministry.

Daniel Turner studied at the theological seminary in McComb and served as pastor for the Mt. Zion Baptist church in Bogue Chitto for several years.

He stepped down as pastor but continued to attend services. Over the past seven years, he has become frustrated with certain aspects of the church, which led him to create a new ministry, his wife said.

“We hope that God is going to send the people and we are going to have a great time,” said Barbara.

The New Birth Community Fellowship will be held in the Old Pleasant Grove AME Building on Highway 84 East at Auburn, in Summit. The public is welcome to attend the Sunday worship service at 11 a.m. and the Sunday school meeting at 10 a.m.

“People will hear the mighty word of God and will be moved by the word of God,” said Barbara.
