Quilting challenge

The Brookhaven Piecemakers Quilter’s Guild hosted a book quilting challenge for their members. The women were told to choose a book, read it and make a wall hanging that reflects a theme in the book.

Jacque Coons won the competition with her quilt based on the book “Bridges of Madison County.” She skillfully quilted a picture of the bridge from the novel over a sparkling river.

“I love the book,” said Coons. “I had already read it, and it was the first thing that popped in my mind.”

Other winners included “The Potting Shed” by Connie Anderson and “Lighthouse” by Theresa Wege.

The book is a romance novel about a woman who has an affair with a photographer who is a creating a photo essay on the covered bridges in the area.

The Piecemakers Quilters Guild meets the second Monday of every month at the Lincoln Franklin Lawrence Regional Library. The group meet at 9 a.m. and goes through 3 p.m. Dues are $10 per year.
