Wesson takes 2 at Natchez Cathedral

NATCHEZ – Wesson’s long road trip to Adams County provedto be a success. Natchez Cathedral provided the opposition in thisDivision 6-2A showdown Friday night, as their Copiah Countycounterparts swept the tide out to sea.

The Lady Cobras hammered out a 47-41 overtime victoryover the Lady Wave. The Cobras drowned the Green Wave58-40.

Wesson plays at West Lincoln on Tuesday. The varsitygirls game starts at 6:00 p.m., followed by the varsity boys gameat 7:30.

The Lady Cobras (3-6, 2-2) picked up an important win indivision play. Powering the attack for Wesson head coach Lane Youngwas Caron Brister who pumped in a game-high 19 points, along with10 rebounds. Kail Baldwin added 12 points and 6rebounds.

Cathedral found itself down 12-11 after one period and19-19 at the intermission. The Lady Wave took a 31-29 lead into thefourth quarter.

Wesson had several opportunities to win the game inregulation, but the Lady Cobras’ shots just would notfall.

“We missed two shots at the end of regulation that couldhave won it,” said Young following the game.

In the extra period, Young watched as his ballclub heldCathedral to a single free throw.

Cathedral was led in scoring by Mary Alwood and VeeBrice with 11 points apiece.

The Cobras (4-5, 3-1) started out slow in the firstquarter, trailing 11-7. Wesson got it in gear, the second period,to take a 28-16 lead into the halftime locker room.

Wesson head coach Jimmy Nail saw his team take a 35-25advantage into the final stanza and coasted to thewin.

Richie Miller paced the Cobras with a game-high 18points plus 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Billy Ray Miller added 7points, 13 rebounds and 5 steals. David Smith pumped in 13points.

The Green Wave was led by Bart Lane with 14points.
