Cougars upset C. Private

MCCOMB – The Brookhaven Academy Cougars upset the CentralPrivate Rebels 4-3 Thursday afternoon in the ParklaneTournament.

Brookhaven Academy (2-1) scored all four runs in the bottom ofthe third inning on a grand slam home run by winning pitcher AdamSmith.

Smith, worked the first 6 1/3 innings and finished with 6strikeouts, 1 walk and 4 hits allowed. Ben Sandifer finished thefinal 2/3 innings, striking out two and walking one.

“It has been nearly eight years since Brookhaven has beatenCentral Private,” said Brookhaven Academy baseball coach RonRushing. “It was a real good win for us. We played gooddefense.”

Adding support to the Cougar win with Lane Moreton and BrandonAchord with a double apiece. Ben Davis, Kelly Allred and ChaseRainer singled.

Brookhaven plays today in the Copiah Academy Tournament inGallman. The Cougars face Pine Hills at 1 p.m. and Copiah at 6.Saturday, Brookhaven returns to Parklane to face the No. 1 Pioneersat 7 and Amite School Center at 4:45.
