Moak, Rayborn qualify for Southern Closed

RIDGELAND -Jarrod Rayborn and Anna Moak of Brookhaven havequalified for the Southern Closed Championships later this summer.They are among 189 junior tennis players competing in the 2001Mississippi Closed Championships at the Ridgeland TennisCenter.

Rayborn, entered in Boys 14s, plays No. 1 seed Ryan Farlow todayin the closed finals. Rayborn beat Andrew Wooten of Hattiesburg6-1, 6-0 and then posted a 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (4) upset of No. 3 seedWilliam Foreman of Jackson.

Rayborn advances to Macon, Ga. Moak advances to Columbia,S.C.

Moak, seeded No. 5 in Girls 12s, upset No. 4 seed Jordan Zacharyof Brandon 6-4, 6-1. She faces No. 1 seed Kerri Wong of Jacksontoday in the semifinals.

Brookhaven has 11 players in the tournament. Stuart Misner isthe No. 1 seed in Boys 16s. He plays for an automatic berth todayin the Southern Closed at Atlanta and faces Brandon Harris ofShannon. Misner beat Alex Lepoutre of Jackson and Porter Glover ofJackson to reach the semis.

Elliott Warren of Brookhaven is the No. 3 seed in Boys 12s.Warren plays Currie Martin of Oxford today for a berth in theSouthern Closed at Columbia, S.C. Warren beat Ross Peets of Jacksonand Robert Flowers of Ridgeland in the first and second rounds.
