Services for Virgel Butler Sr. of Bogue Chitto are 2 p.m.,Saturday, Sept. 8, at Mt. Zion M. B. Church in Bogue Chitto withburial in the church cemetery.

Visitation is today from noon through the wake service from 6-7p.m. at Tyler Funeral Home.

Mr. Butler, 61, died Sept. 4, 2001, at Anderson Regional MedicalCenter in Meridian. He was born in Lincoln County on Nov. 2, 1939,to Louis Butler and Elva Edwards Butler.

He was a retired bus operator for the Chicago Transit Authority.He was a member of Mt. Zion M. B. Church, where he was a deacon,the custodian, served on the finance committee, and was substitutesuperintendent of Sunday school. He was a member of the board ofthe Bogue Chitto Community Center. In Chicago, he was a member ofSound Investment.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers, Tommy,Lucius, Louis, Joseph, and Will David Butler; and his sister, LelaMae Houskins.

Survivors are his wife, Florida Thompson Butler of Bogue Chitto;his son, Virgel Butler Jr. of Lansing, Mich.; his daughters, SandraCorbett of Jacksonville, Fla., and Valeria Butler of Chicago; hisbrothers, Ivan Butler of Bogue Chitto, Frankie B. Butler ofGaryville, La., and Calvin Butler of New Orleans; his sister,Carolyn Bouie of Brookhaven; and one grandchild and a host ofnieces and nephews.
