First Hometown Bucks awarded

A Bogue Chitto man has big plans for the $200 in Hometown Buckshe won Friday in The DAILY LEADER’S A Hometown Christmaspromotion.

The extra money will come in handy during the next two monthsfor Harry Joe Martin, 57, a retired Bogue Chitto resident.

“I’ve got an anniversary coming up, then Christmas and my wife’sbirthday,” he said.

Hometown Bucks are given away each Friday as incentive toencourage local residents to shop in Brookhaven. Martin said he hadplanned to buy most of his gifts in Brookhaven anyway, so it workedout just right for him.

“I believe in local shopping because it helps the economy inthis area,” he remarked.

Martin’s name was drawn from the box at Walls Lumber Company,where he often shops for supplies for carpentry work he doespart-time.

“I was real surprised. I had just signed up that morning when Icame to get some stuff,” Martin said.

Each Friday, one name will be drawn from the participatingmerchants, then the winner will be drawn from those names, with$2,000 to be given away before Dec. 14.

Shoppers may register for the drawings using the special entryforms and boxes on display at any of the participating businesses.Shoppers may enter as many times as they would like.

There will be six more weekly drawings for $200 in HometownBucks, with a grand prize drawing for $600 on Dec. 14.

* Lofton’s Sporting Goods

* Rushing Boots and Shoe Shop

* Shipp’s Florist

* State Bank

* T.H. Perkins Furniture Company

* Walls Lumber Co.

Employees of the DAILY LEADER and their families are noteligible to win. Employees of participating merchants may notregister at their respective business, but they may register at anyof the other participating business.
