Lady Wolves bounce Holmes

FULTON – Sophomore post Mindy Livaudais scored 18 points andpowered the Co-Lin Lady Wolves to a 62-50 Tuesday victory overHolmes Community College in the opening round of the MJCAA StateBasketball Tournament.
Co-Lin plays Pearl River tonight at 6 p.m. Southwest plays EastCentral in the other semifinals game.
In the other women’s games Tuesday, Southwest eliminatedNorthwest 75-63, Pearl River dumped Itawamba 70-60 and East Centralsacked Northeast 70-67, giving the South Division a rare sweep ofthe North.
In the men’s semifinals today, Southwest plays Holmes and Hindsfaces Northwest. Championship finals are Thursday night at 6 and8.
The Lady Wolves (21-2) accounted for 43rebounds, led by Livaudais with 14 boards. Tiania Burns had 9rebounds. Christy Brown and Lindsay Altman each had 6 rebounds.
Gwen Smith made 4 assists for Co-Lin. Brown made 4 steals andLivaudais 4.
“We hit a little spurt in the second half and got ahead ofthem,” said Young. “We made a few outside shots outside.”
In the first half, Co-Lin made just 6 of 24 field goal attemptsbut they managed to overcome the shaky start and eliminate the LadyBulldogs who were seeded No. 4 out of the North. Co-Lin beatSouthwest last Thursday to secure No. 1 seeding out of theSouth.
“It’s good to win that first game,” said Young. “Hopefully ourteam will be more relaxed tonight and play better.”
