City teacher charges investigated

Authorities are investigating allegations of sexual harassmentof students by a teacher in the Brookhaven School District,officials said Wednesday.

Neither Superintendent Dr. Sam Bounds nor Brookhaven PoliceChief Arlustra “Pap” Henderson would identify the teacher or theperson’s school. Henderson said his department became involved alittle over a week ago after the District Attorney’s Officereceived a complaint about the alleged conduct.

“It is an on-going investigation,” Henderson said.

Henderson said he hoped to have the investigation concluded bythe week of March 22. He said police department efforts will behindered somewhat by next week’s spring break holidays.

“I’m aware of the allegations made and this is an on-goinginvestigation that we are cooperating with fully,” Bounds said.

Citing authorities’ involvement in the personnel matter, Boundsdid not wish to comment further. The teacher remains employedpending the outcome of the investigation, Bounds said.

“We want to make sure we have a thorough and completeinvestigation and that all the facts are known,” Bounds said.
