Services for Johnny Lee Tyrell Smith of Evans, Ga., are 1 p.m.,Saturday, March 23, at New Hope Baptist Church in Brookhaven withburial in Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery in Union Church.

Visitation is today from noon through the family hour from 7-9p.m. at Tyler Funeral Home.

Mr. Smith, 44, died March 18, 2002, at V. A. Uptown DivisionMedical Center in Augusta, Ga. He was born in Wesson on Oct. 17,1957, to John Archie Smith Jr. and Geneva Marie Kenny Smith. He wasa 1975 graduate of Wesson High School. He was a graduate ofCopiah-Lincoln Community College and the University of SouthernMississippi.

He was a computer analyst for the Department of Social andHealth Services in Washington, D.C. He was a member of OmicronDelta Kappa, USM, Alabama Jaycees, Huntsville, Ala., Alpha PhiAlpha Fraternity, Alpha Kappa Mu, USM, Delta Psi Omega, Co-Lin, PhiTheta Kappa, USM, Association for Computing Machinery, New York,N.Y., The Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers, NewYork, N.Y., and Scabbard and Blade (Military Honor Society)Hattiesburg.

He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Copiah County. Heserved in the Army from 1979-83 as a communication-electronicengineer.

Preceding him in death were his father; and his brother, John T.Smith.

Survivors are his wife, Janis P. Tyrell Smith of Evans, Ga.; hismother, Geneva Marie Kenny Smith of Brookhaven; his son, JonathanJames Tyrell Smith of Steilacoom, Wash.; his daughters, JanineTyrell Smith and Jennifer Tyrell Smith, both of Evans, Ga.; hissister, Betty Jean Brooks Smith of Jackson; and a host of niecesand nephews.
