Fires destroy two homes

No injuries were reported Tuesday as two area homes weredestroyed by fire in separate incidents, according toauthorities.

The first fire of the day gutted the home of David Jackson onStoneybrook Trail in Bogue Chitto, said Clifford R. Galey, LincolnCounty fire coordinator.

“The mailman was the one that called it in. The folks weren’teven at home when the fire started,” he said.

Hog Chain, Bogue Chitto and Zetus Volunteer Fire Departmentswere called to the scene around 10:30 a.m. and remained on scenefor several hours, according to fire reports.

“The firefighters did an excellent job putting it out,” saidGaley. “The structure is still standing, but there was so much heatand smoke damage that it will probably be a total loss.”

The cause of the fire is being investigated by local authoritiesand the state fire marshal, said Galey.

Wesson and Heuck’s Retreat Volunteer Fire Departments were keptbusy battling a blaze at the home of Shannon Courtney at 1166Shannon Lane inside Timberlane Campgrounds, according toauthorities.

“It was gone when we got there. The roof was laying on theframe,” said Wesson Lt. Corey Smith.

Smith said he did not believe anyone was at home when the firebroke out. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Firefighters worked to put the fire out from 4-6:30 p.m., but itwas reported a total loss.
