Services for Alvin Earl Sykes of Monticello are 10 a.m.,Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Harrigill Funeral Home Chapel in Brookhavenwith burial in Riverwood Memorial Park.

Visitation is today from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Sykes, 78, died Sept. 9, 2002, at V.A. Medical Center inJackson. He was born in Lincoln County on April 11, 1924, to thelate Jessie Sykes and the late Ruth McCain Sykes.

He was a retired grocery store owner. He was a member ofMonticello Baptist Church. He served in the Army during World WarII.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his first wife,Nell Jo Sykes.

Survivors are his wife, Laverne Smith Sykes of Monticello; hissons, William Boyd, Rickey Sykes and Patrick Smith, all ofMonticello; his daughter, Vickie Vaughn of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; andsix grandchildren.
