COLUMBIA — The Brookhaven Academy Cougars pushed their perfectrecord to 6-0 Friday night with a hard-fought 32-13 win over theupset-minded Columbia Academy Cougars. Combined with the last fourgames of 2003, the BA Cougars have a 10-game winning streak.

“We beat a really good football team tonight,” said BrookhavenAcademy head coach Ray Ishee. “We were still missing (Cole) Hodgeson the offensive side of the ball, so that made it a little tougherfor us.

“Cameron Achord came in and did an excellent job running thefootball,” Ishee pointed out. “Price (Sessums) also had to carry alot of weight.”

Brookhaven was able to draw first blood when sophomorequarterback Price Sessums darted into the end zone from nine yardsout. The two-point conversion attempt failed as BA took a 6-0 leadwith 6:17 showing in the first quarter.

Columbia (3-3, 0-2) was able to answer with 1:41 remaining inthe first when Johnny Spillman returned a Price Sessums punt 80yards to paydirt. The conversion failed, the score was tied a6-6.

Brookhaven was able to strike again when Sessums added hissecond score of the night on a 7-yard scamper, giving the BACougars a 12-6 advantage. The Cougars were able to add their finalscore of the half when Dusty Bratton intercepted a Columbia passand raced 34 yards for the touchdown as time expired. Again theconversion failed and Brookhaven took an 18-6 lead to the lockerroom.

“That interception by Bratton was huge,” added Ishee.

“Columbia had built up quite a bit of momentum and that latetouchdown helped us to turn the table.”

The BA Cougars were able to add another score to open the thirdquarter and push their lead to 26-6 at the 5:01 mark. Achord scoredon a 5 yard run. Sessums added the two-point conversion.

Columbia clawed its way back when Ben Selman ran it in from 11yards out. Selman added the extra point to cut Brookhaven’s lead to26-13 with 2:21 remaining in the third quarter.

That’s as close as Columbia would get. Brookhaven was able toput up its final scored of the night when Sessums scored from oneyard out with 1:24 remaining in the game.

“Brookhaven is 6-0 for a reason,” said Columbia head coach BradDuncan. “They are fast and they have good skill position players.They just flat out whipped us.

“Sessums is one heck of an athlete,” added Duncan. “We hit himwith three or four guys and he just wouldn’t go down.”

Offensively, Brookhaven was led by Sessums on the ground as hecarried the ball 18 times for 118 yards and three

touchdowns. He also went 5-of-8 through the air for 91 yards.Achord had 89 yards on 16 attempts and one touchdown.

Defensively, Paul Davis led the Cougars with 10tackles. Chris Falvey added nine stops. Bratton had 8, along with ablocked punt and an interception. Hodges and Stewart Sessums eachhad an interception.

Columbia was led by Selman who had 60 yards on nine carries.

Brookhaven (6-0, 2-0) returns home Friday night to host SillimanInstitute in a District 4-AA contest. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
