Board gains member, new leadership

This week’s meeting of the Lincoln County School Board was alearning experience for Michael Posey.

Monday’s meeting was Posey’s first as a sitting member of theboard, although he has attended nearly all the meeting since he waselected. Posey ran unopposed in the November general election toreplace District Five board member Brenda Warren to represent LoydStar. Warren did not seek reelection for a third six-year term.

“It went real well,” Posey said. “It was mostly routinebusiness. I enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to working with theother members of the board. I hope we can make a difference.”

The board also redistributed its leadership roles Monday.

District Two board member Johnny Hart relinquished his role asthe board president to District Three board member Joann Holmes,who served as vice president last year. Hart had served as boardpresident for nearly two years. His first year, as vice president,he was acting president after the death of Jerry Coon.

Warren was expected to become the board’s vice president thisyear, but her decision not to seek reelection advanced DistrictFour board member Steve Rushing to the post.

Kay Coon was selected as the board secretary.
