Lady Panthers fall to North Pike

SUMMIT — “You can’t win, if you don’t score runs.”
That was how Ole Brook head coach Lisa Covington felt, followingher Lady Panthers’ tough 1-0 loss to the North Pike Lady JaguarsThursday night, at Volunteer Field on Senior Night.
North Pike head coach Sonia Wallace honored seniors CaseyDickerson, Allison Johnson, Jessica Turner and Emily VanLandinghamprior to the game. They were each presented with balloons, a giftbag and flowers.
North Pike improves to 16-5 overall, while Brookhaven falls to10-7.
Brookhaven and North Pike tied at 4-4 in the 4-inning JVgame.
Brookhaven host the Brookhaven Fast-Pitch Tournament Saturday,at Hansel King Sportsplex. Action gets under way at 9 a.m.featuring Brookhaven vs. Franklin Co. Loyd Star tackles WarrenCentral at 10:20, and Franklin Co. at 11:40. Brookhaven playsWarren Central at 1 p.m., followed by Warren Central and FranklinCo. at 2:20. Brookhaven closes out the tournament against Loyd Starat 3:40.
North Pike travels to Terry today, and are at SalemSaturday.

Both teams exhibited outstanding defensive plays throughout theevening. It was a pitcher’s duel between North Pike’s sophomorehurler Catherine West and Ole Brook’s junior ace Ashley Sykes.
“Both pitchers threw a good game tonight,” said Lady Jagsassistant Jess Greer. “This was a pitcher’s battle all night.”
West authored the win for North Pike, allowing no runs on 2hits; walking 1 and fanned 9 Lady Panther batters in 7 innings.Sykes took the loss for Brookhaven. She allowed 1 earned run on 4hits, issuing 1 walk and striking out 2.
North Pike got the lone run of the game in their half of thefifth. Centerfielder Jessica Turner singled. Two batters later,catcher Emily VanLandingham tripled to score Turner.
Both teams had several scoring opportunities throughout thegame.
“We had some opportunities to score, but did not capitalize onthem,” said Covington. “North Pike played well tonight.”
The Lady Panthers got singles from first baseman Megan Tusseyand catcher Kelly Vinson.
West and Kaitlyn Perry each singled for North Pike.
In the JV game, Brookhaven got run support fromAmanda McIntyre, Katie Smith, Brianna Ashmore and Lauren Smith.Jana Brister and Sabrina DeLaughter each singled. Brittany Smithand Terri Hodges pitched for the Lady Panthers.
Scoring runs for the Lady Jags were Sagan King, Kayla Stockton,Jessie Smith and Kristen Phelps. Belinda Wright and Kelsey Lordeach singled. Wright and Samantha Roberts were on the mound forNorth Pike.
