Bogue Chitto wins 3 games

BOGUE CHITTO — The Bogue Chitto Bobcats hosted a 4-teamscrimmage Thursday evening at Troy Smith Stadium. Joining BogueChitto were West Lincoln, Salem and Dexter.

In varsity play, Bogue Chitto clipped Salem 12-6, Dexter crushedWest Lincoln 26-8, Bogue Chitto squashed Dexter 22-8, Salem shutoutWest Lincoln 16-0. Dexter stunned Salem 22-6, and Bogue Chittoknocked off West Lincoln 14-0 in the final game.

“We looked good at times,” said Bogue Chitto head coach GarethSartin. “We played good defense when we were fresh. We playedagainst very aggressive teams tonight. Corey (Washington) andDantae (Ratcliff) had some impressive runs. We have some errors tocorrect before fall. But overall, I was pleased with our effort. Wecame out and played.”

West Lincoln head coach Brooks Burns tried some new plays onoffense to see what his Bears could do.

“I thought we would try something new on offense,” stated Burns.”We had a lot of guys that played every down. I thought Dexter wasvery athletic and Salem and Bogue Chitto are not far behind. Westill have a lot to learn on our new plays. My Junior varsityplayed very well. These scrimmages made it where my guys would seethe different speeds of a game instead, of what we have in ourpractices.”

Bogue Chitto 12, Salem 6

Dontae Ratcliff scored on an 8-yard run and Corey Washingtonrecorded a TD on a 2-yard plunge for the Bobcats.

Salem’s Teddy Martin scored the Wildcats only touchdown on a9-yard run.

In the junior varsity game, the Wildcats stunned the Bobcats14-0. Rio Davis rushed for 35 and 6-yard TDs.

Dexter 26, West Lincoln 8

Dexter went up 12-0 over West Lincoln on a 6-yard run by BryonLofton and a 40-yard pass play from Rico Haynes to MarioMiller.

Kevin Lofton scored a 9-yard TD for Wets Lincoln followed by a2-point conversion run by Darnell Sampson to cut the deficit to12-8.

The Bulldogs roared back for a pair of touchdowns on a 20-yardburst by Haynes and 2 point conversion run by Miller. Scoring thefinal TD was Miller on a 5-yard plunge.

Bogue Chitto 22, Dexter 8

Bogue Chitto’s Corey Washington scored a 6-yard TD andWashington carried the 2-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.

Bobcat quarterback Dontae Ratcliff completed a 40-yard pass toto Seth Avants for the second TD and 2-point conversion pass fromRatcliff to Mario Addison for a 16-0 advantage.

Washington scored on a 7-yard run for the 22-0 lead.

Haynes rushed for an 8-yard TD and completed a 2-pointconversion pass to Brandell Brown.

Salem 16, West Lincoln 0

Teddy Martin’s 2-yard plunge and 2-point conversion run putSalem up 8-0. Martin followed with a 10-yard touchdown run andcompleted a pass to Justin Delancey for the 2-point conversion.

In JV action, Salem clipped West Lincoln 12-0. Wildcatquarterback Aarion Gaines threw to Darecus Slocom for the 5-yardTD. Rico Davis scored on a 7-yard carry.

Bogue Chitto 14, West Lincoln 0

The Bobcats got a 20-yard touchdown run from Dontae Ratcliff anda run for two points and an 8-0 lead over the rival Bears.

Washington went over the goal line for a 2-yard score for theBobcats.

Bogue Chitto beat West Lincoln 12-0 in the JV game.

Scotty Brown scored a 10 -yard touchdown and Seth Avants rushedfor a 1-yard TD.

Dexter 22, Salem 6

Haynes passed to Bradley Weary for 10-yard TD and followed upwith a 20-yard pass-play to Byron Lofton for the second TD. Haynesalso ran the 2-point conversion.

Salem cut the deficit to 14-6 on a 35-yard run by TeddyMartin.

Haynes came back for Dexter with a 12-yard touchdown run andBradley Weary ran the 2-point conversion.

“Our boys did a lot better than I thought, ” said Dexter headcoach Randy Sumrall. “We still have a lot to do. But overall we hada good spring.”
