Scouts looking for local talent

Aspiring models, musicians, dancers and actors will have anopportunity to answer the call to fame Saturday during a talentsearch in Brookhaven.

The Haven on West Cherokee Street will be the site for open callauditions for people age four to adults. Audition times are 10a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., and there is no charge to participate.

Consuelo Oster, local coordinator, said she had received a lotof calls about the event and interest is great.

“I think we’re going to have a good turnout,” Oster said.

Oster said talent scouts with the Mike Beaty Model and TalentExpo will evaluate the performances and make final selections.Those chosen will be invited for a call back session Sunday.

“There is no set number of models, singers or people they’relooking to recruit,” said Oster, who became involved in the expothrough her niece Alana, who is interested in modeling.

Following the call back session, some could be invited to attendBeaty’s Fall Model and Talent Expo in Dallas, Oct. 27-30. Detailsabout costs and other aspects of attending that event will bediscussed Sunday, Oster said.

In Dallas, representatives of major modeling agencies, recordlabels, movie studios, Broadway shows and others will be lookingfor talent for their productions. Using modeling as an example,Oster said the expo is a chance for those interested in theprofession to been seen by “big name” agency representatives in oneplace.

“It’s a great opportunity to get your foot in the door and beseen by a lot of people in the industry,” Oster said.

The journey begins Saturday with auditions for the expo.

“I know there is a lot of talent in Brookhaven,” Oster said.”I’m hoping we’ll have a good turnout and something good will comeout of it.”
