Co-Lin sweeps Holmes

GOODMAN — The Thanksgiving holidays will be more enjoyable forthe Copiah-Lincoln Community College basketball teams and theircoaches. The Wolves and Lady Wolves were Tuesday night winners onthe road, beating Holmes CC 77-67 in the men’s game and 73-69 inthe women’s game.

Co-Lin resumes play Dec. 2, hosting Mississippi Delta.

The Lady Wolves (2-3) were powered by freshmanNikki Williams who scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed 7rebounds. They avenged an earlier 80-75 overtime loss to Holmes atWesson.

“Nikki Williams had her best game of the year and played welldefensively,” said Co-Lin women’s coach Gwyn Young. “We had a goodshowing by our bench, with Corissa Tillman and Erica Trahan scoring7 each.

“We played about 34 minutes of the best basketball we’ve playedthis year,” added Young. “It was a good win going into the holidaysagainst a very good Holmes team.”

Dominique Whitfield chipped in 12 points and Jennifer Carter 10as Co-Lin forged a 16-point lead in the second half. Whitfieldgrabbed 8 rebounds.

Holmes (5-2) was led by Lurena Robinson who had 21 points. TheLady Bulldogs trailed 44-33 at halftime as Co-Lin played strongdefense.

The Wolves (3-2) got a game-high 28-pointperformance from sophomore guard Joe Holliday last night. The BatonRouge product was joined in double digits by point guard IvoryDishmon with 17 points, plus 10 assists.

Co-Lin men’s coach Dennis Sims labeled the victory “our bestgame of the season. This was the best we’ve played at both ends ofthe floor.

“Ivory Dishmon controlled the offensive end of the floor, makingexcellent decisions,” Sims pointed out. “Overall, everyone did abetter job of putting us in position to get some good shots.”

Holliday poured in 21 of his points in the second half as theWolves overcame a 41-38 halftime deficit. He made 4 of 10 treys andwas 6 of 8 from 2-point range, plus 4 of 5 at the free throwline.

On the backboards, sophomore Tremaine Enoch led Co-Lin with 8rebounds.

Holmes (4-4) got 15 points and 8 rebounds from Richard Worthy.Derrick Huffman added 13 points and Michael Marzette 10.
