BA girls crush Copiah

The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars produced a big win in theconsolation bracket of the Brookhaven Academy Holiday InvitationalTournament Friday afternoon . The Lady Cougars (15-7) clobberedCopiah Academy 54-17 in girls action.

In the first boys consolation game of the day, Simpson Countycame back to beat Adams County Christian School 51-46 inovertime.

Following the holidays, BA returns to action on Friday, Jan. 6,2005, at Natchez Trinity for five games.

Brookhaven 54, Copiah 17

The Lady Cougars started off with an 18-5 run on Copiah andcontinued in the second half to take a 32-8 lead at halftime.

“I thought for the first time this year, everyone had a goodfeel of what I wanted them to do,” said Brookhaven Academy girlscoach Barry Gray. “It was our best game of the year.”

Gray was able to sub frequently in the second quarter andcontinued to allow his younger players to get game experience.Going into the fourth quarter, the Lady Cougars held a 44-12lead.

Powering Brookhaven with a game-high 18 points was playmakerBetsy Lynch. Maddie Allen fired in 14 points, including threetreys. Pulling down 3 rebounds apiece were Alex Grant and KellieBrady.

Free throw shooting improved for the Lady Cougars who finished12 of 18 from the charity stripe.

“We are struggling right now,” said Copiah girls coach MitchMitchell. “We have a lot of work to do.”

Emily Fahner led the Lady Colonels (6-15) with eight points.

Simpson 51, Adams Christian 48

The visiting Cougars from Mendenhall outscored the Saints 5-2 inovertime for the win. At the end of regulation, the game wasdeadlocked at 46-all.

Kevin White and Ben Maddox pumped in 14 points apiece forSimpson. Netting 13 points was Whit Ross.

Adams Christian got 22 points from Terry Foster followed byMatthew Marks with 8.
