Thomas directs BC over Dexter girls

BOGUE CHITTO — Kimberlee Thomas pumped in 19 points and pulleddown 19 rebounds Friday night to direct the Bogue Chitto LadyBobcats to a 62-31 Division 7-1A win over the Dexter Lady Bulldogsin the final game of the regular season.
In boys action, the Bobcats took a brief lead in the fourthquarter but the Bulldogs came back to hold off the hosts for aclose 78-76 victory in Calhoun Gymnasium.
Bogue Chitto senior basketball players Meleah Brown, AlonzoMiner and Nic Hatten were recognized for their achievements duringa pregame ceremony.
Bogue Chitto 62, Dexter 31
The Lady ‘Cats, coached by Christi Terrell, improved to 12-10 onthe season and finished 7-4 in the division. The Lady Bulldogs,coached by Steve Fortenberry, fell to 4-20 and 2-10.
The Bogue Chitto girls jumped on Dexter in the first quarter fora 17-6 lead. At halftime, the hosts enjoyed a lopsided 41-16advantage.
Adding support to the Lady ‘Cats win was Meleah Brown with 16points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals. LaToya Braxton finished with 7points and 8 rebounds. Also grabbing 8 rebounds was Shasta Porter.Collecting 7 rebounds and 2 assists was Kelli Howard.
Ebony Hampton led the Lady Bulldogs with 11 points.
Dexter 78, Bogue Chitto 76
With 3:03 remaining in the game, the Bogue Chitto boys tied thegame at 70-all and went up 71-70 before Dexter came back for aquick 74-71 lead with 1:55 left.
Coach Andrew Smithie’s Bobcats (8-14, 6-6) pulled within 2points of the Bulldogs (16-10, 9-3) several times in the finalminute of play but couldn’t retake the lead as time expired.
The game was close all the way with the Bulldogs leading 16-14in the first quarter, 35-30 at halftime and 54-51 going into thefinal frame.
Dexter’s Rico Haynes was the game-high leader with 35 points.Scoring 14 points was Kyron Cotton. Terrance Marks netted 12 pointsfollowed by Carlos Crumedy with 10.
Alonzo Miner was the top scorer for Bogue Chitto with 26 points.Dontae Ratcliff fired in 17 points. Pumping in 15 points wasAntwain Lyons. Keyouna Perkins netted 14 points.
